Objectives

DFID Indo-UK Collaborative project on “Farmers Participatory Varietal Selection Programme in Rabi Sorghum.”

i.                   Selection of suitable varieties by farmers from new genotypes tested in farmers managed trials.

ii.                 Removal of constrains that cause farmers to continue to grow landraces for productivity.

iii.              Promotion of superior local varietal selection, natural management practices and low cost production technology identified in farmer managed trials.

iv.               Collection of local landrace biodiversity for conservation & utilization in Breeding programme.

Studies on application of vermicompost and earth worms in aquaculture with special reference to the growth and survival of Indian Major carps & Giant fresh water prawn at nursery, rearing & grow out phases.

i.                   To study the comparative efficacy of vermicompost obtained from sugarcane trash, wheat straw & FYM on growth and survival of carps and prawn seed in nursery & rearing ponds and their suitability.

ii.                 To study the effect of duck excreta, which is to be obtained from the duck fed with earth worms in enclosures on growth and survival of carps and prawn seed in nursery and rearing ponds.

iii.              To estimate the nutritive value of vermicompost, duck excreta in laboratory.

iv.               A pilot scale experiment to study the comparative efficacy on productivity & growth of fish and prawn by fertilizing grow out ponds with vermicompost & FYM.

3.

A village level Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Demonstration For Rainfed Hybrid Cotton.

To demonstrate the IPM techniques on farmers field on large scale basis.
